I love working at a community college.... One over hears the darnedest things:


"....Yeah! John McCain has a fake hand! His was chopped off when he was like, a POW.... And Palin has that retarted baby! We can't have leaders like that! What would the rest of the world think if we had a leader with a fake hand and a Vice President with a retarted baby? They'd think we were idiots!"

I am sure I unconsciously corrected some of the grammar.....


Ok... So I don't like McCain or Palin either... But really.... This is just stupid and bigoted.

Truthfully, I would think that having either a fake hand or a retarted baby would help a person to grow emotionally (assuming we were talking about people who are capable of growing emotionally). As for worrying about the rest of the world thinking we're idiots...I'm afraid it's much, much too late.

It is my understanding that Palin has a Down Syndrome child. To some (ignorant) people, that qualifies as a "retarded" child. My partner's sister-in-law's granddaughter has Down Syndrome. She is a wonderful child. I would never consider her to be "retarded". As some folks who work with Down Syndrome afflicted adults and children say, "So, what's an extra chromosome between friends."

As far as the "fake hand" rumor is concerned, while I do not know whether it is true or not, it would explain why McCain allegedly blew off Obama when Obama tried to shake his hand after the debate. McCain may have said, "I would shake your hand, but with my kung-fu grip, I may break some of your fingers."

I would of snapped back and say, "Hey, did you hear about that Science Fiction Movie, where some idiot tried to tell Mr. Rooservelt that if listened to the Evil Villain from a Future-Time that he couldn't be President of the U.S. because Wheelchairs were considered illegal....
