As I left my house this morning, there was a bit of snow falling... Not sticking to the ground, mind you, but fluttering gently down. Not even enough to dust my beard..

That was an hour and a half ago. I am still on the bus. The bus that was 25 minutes late and is now on "Snow route." Not that there is any snow on the ground. Hell, the streets are barely damp.

But you know, there is snow in Seattle, 180 miles to the north (when a passanger commented that the snow route was probablly a bit premature, the driver said it was 'in case things get bad, like in Seattle').

What.

The.

Fuck?

As a Seattle-ite who has spent many winters in Massachusetts, stories like this always crack me up. Yes, Washingtonians are wusses about snow. Although if there were more than 5 plows for all of King County, it might help, eh?

And Portland? Well, look on the bright side- if it snows half an inch you'll get to stay home all snuggled up to avoid the "dangerous weather conditions" outside.

Oh, but it is dangerous in Seattle. Roads are full of fools in Navigators who think they know how to drive on ice because they have AAA on their frickin speed dial.

On the plus side, planning the needs assessment survey with my lap full of sleepy kittens is good.

Just think what happened when areas of Texas....Southern and Eastern Texas got snow Christmas 04. Houston barely got a dusting and you thought the whole world was coming to an end.

Our weather forecasters are saying we'll be getting this cold front that is effecting Seattle and Portland sometime on Thursday, and it allows TV stations to use "Temperatures To Plunge" in a complete sentence.

Cause everything has to be bigger in Texas

Your post reminds me of winters here. Gods help us if it's predicted we might maybe kinda possibly get sorta an inch or so (in maybe a week), and you'd better hope you already have milk and bread in the fridge, 'cause everybody's already cleaned out the Piggly Wiggly in preparation for the "event" that will surely cripple the city for days.

A good six inches of snow here and we'd all die. I'm sure of it. :)

Ha! It's all or nuthin' in the weather preparation department in Portland, baby! Sorry you're stuck in the middle of it. You must be getting a lot of eye rolling practice at the moment.

Seattle has less than an inch of snow but of course the whole city was pretty much shuit down today, because everyone who works downtown lives out in the suburbs, where it's all iced over. These are the days when I'm soooo happy to not be a driver.

Now you understand...
