DEATH to Crazy Concord Christians!
May. 22nd, 2005 01:23 amThanks to everyone who gave me suggestions for book titles to check at the library. Lucky for me, the catalog is on line ( http://www.contra-costa.lib.ca.us/ ). I checked.. There is a book listed called Bitch by Karl Rauth, but I don't think this was the one meant... The other titles were not listed at all. I did a general search for "Transgender". Came up with Riddle of Gender by Deborah Rudacille and a Book called LGBTQ: A Survival Guide for Queer and Questioning Teens. I am willing to bet that there is not much about Transgender issues in the book. I have noticed that the Gay/Lesbian community at large likes to slap "T" at the end of the arcronym and then thinks that their bases are covered as far as transgender rights issues. (But that's another rant entirely.) There were some other titles listed under the keyword "Transsexual". But here's the rub.. In a library sytem with 25 branches, serving literally 1,001,136 people (According to the 2003 census), there was one copy of each title and each title was in a different branch. Meaning there is NO branch that has a section or even a modest collection of books on the topic. Oh, and every single title happened to be checked out.
I really have to move.

Sucks that Contra Costa County depends on states like TX for their banned book list.
