Happy birthday to me!

The family had a really nice birthday party for me at the bar tonight.. Fun was had by all, even though I am sick-unto-death witht his horrible cold.
Not to mention the fact that I am still off the MS meds, so yeah... Just as I was leaving, I fell.. Hard.. Nothing like a little humiliation to start off a new year!
But it was a really fun night... Including an appearance by

Tomorrow, I wake up 29.. Again.

Date: 2007-01-16 04:33 am (UTC)Sorry to hear the MS is giving you trouble. Have you considered Tysabri at all? I stopped taking Rebif last October (because it didn't seem to be doing anything) and am hoping to talk with my neurologist about Tysabri at some point.
Anyway, wishing you the best. Cheers!

Date: 2007-01-16 06:47 pm (UTC)I take Betaseron, which works great for the relapsing/remitting type of MS that I am graced with. Problem is, it's a bit too rough on the liver.. when I had my oral surgery a few weeks back, I was on all kinds of pain meds... which are also liver bullies... So... Off the Betaseron for a bit while everything calms down...This happened to me two years ago too.. It was the last time I was in the chair...I am hoping to avoid that this time.

Date: 2007-01-16 10:41 pm (UTC)I also have r/r and I was on Avonex for about 8 years before going on Rebif. The Avonex worked great for a long time, but then seemed to be loosing effectiveness. That is why I switched to Rebif, which was pretty much unhelpful. If anything the thing that seems to have helped the most in the last year is being on T, but I guess you've already got that part *smile*. Apparently there is also testing under way on giving testosterone treatment to men with MS to help with their progression. Not sure about the results but what I found on-line looked promising.
Also good for bolstering the liver is Silymarin (milk thistle), which I'm taking to counteract any potential liver issues from being on T. You can find it at any health food store, or on iHerb.com.
I hear you on avoiding the chair, I use a cane all the time now after taking a couple of nasty spills. I probably should use a chair sometimes too, but I've just been to pig-headed to do it. It helps to hear that people who I admire (in spite of mostly having gotten to know you through LJ) are willing to go there when they need to.
Wishing you the best and hoping you feel better soon. Cheers, Mitch

Date: 2007-01-16 11:15 pm (UTC)I am the WORST about going into the chair. When I start falling too much tho, I have to use it. My Dr. scared the bejebus out of me with possible life ending scenarios (stairs, traffic, falling while running from serial killers, etc.) if I don't use the chair when the ol' stems ain't working right.
